Scrap Gold Value CalculatorIf your aim of finding gold is to sell it, you need an easy way to determine it's value.

The first step is to determine the gold melt value at the current market spot price. Here's a simple and handy calculator to determine the value using the up to date spot price for gold.

Once you know the spot value it's time to find a buyer.

For all of my scrap gold I use Midwest Refineries because they are a no frills place that treats everyone the same. It also helps that they pay 95% of spot, with no minimum amount. They have been in business since 1939 and they just plain know what they are doing.

If you want spot price or if you think you have something unique with a little aesthetic value try Ebay.com.  People love to buy gold on Ebay and they often pay at or above spot price. A few keys to a good ad for selling gold on Ebay: only sell by auction, use No Reserve, and start the price @ $0.99.  It's quite unnerving to put that much value on the line, but those auctions will attract 100's of interested buyers and bidding has never failed to meet my expectations.

If your have the great fortune of finding a gold coin or pocket watch...Don't melt those down! The value of collectables is dependent on things like condition and rarity, but it will always have a premium above the spot price...but that's another story....
